Pro-life organization demanded clear boundaries for surrogacy

The debate about human dignity and protection of women and children is gaining more importance in Germany.

The Federal Chairwoman of Action Right to Life for All (ALfA), Cornelia Kaminski, has sharply condemned the practice of surrogacy and described it as a fundamental injustice. This form of reproductive medicine contradicts the welfare of women and children, as it is often associated with contractual constraints and economic pressure. To bring the issue more into public consciousness, the organization is hosting an international congress in Berlin in March 2026. This was reported by Diocese of Regensburg. ALfA bases its criticism on international human rights discussions. Independent experts warn of exploitation, commercialization of the desire for children, and instrumentalization of women. Critics fear that women act under social or financial pressure and that children are increasingly viewed as commodities.

The Catholic Church also decisively rejects surrogacy, referring to inviolable human dignity. In its statements, it emphasizes that neither the child nor the surrogate mother should become mere means for others' desires for children. The desire for a child cannot be understood as an enforceable claim. The ongoing debate shows that surrogacy remains highly ethically controversial internationally.
