Memorial service for Patriarch Ilia II celebrated in Tbilisi
Ninth day after the repose of the Georgian Church leader.
On March 25, a memorial service for the deceased Patriarch of Georgia, Ilia II, was celebrated at the Sioni Cathedral in Tbilisi. The service was presided over by the Locum Tenens of the Patriarchal Throne, Metropolitan Shio of Senaki and Chkhorotsku, together with members of the Holy Synod and numerous clergy. This was reported by Orthodox Times. In addition to the memorial service, a prayer service was also held on the occasion of the restoration of autocephaly of the Georgian Orthodox Church. The celebration thus combined the historical commemoration of the Church with the personal remembrance of the deceased Patriarch.
High-ranking state representatives participated in the service, including the President, the Prime Minister, and the Speaker of Parliament of Georgia. Numerous faithful also gathered to pray together and commemorate the spiritual legacy of Patriarch Ilia II.
