Church leaders warned against temple plans in Jerusalem

The background involves initiatives by individual groups seeking to rebuild the temple at its historical location. This is situated on today's Temple Mount, where central Islamic holy sites also stand. Church representatives emphasize that any change to this sensitive location could trigger far-reaching religious and political tensions.
The signatories of the statement warn that such developments could additionally charge the existing conflict religiously and expand it into a broader international dimension. They call for respecting existing religious sites and avoiding any form of escalation.
