Bishops celebrated Liturgy for the Sunday of the Prodigal Son in Letnjikovac

Bishop Jerotej of Šabac celebrated with Bishop Nektarije of London in the Trinity Church. In the sermon, there was a call for inner conversion and hope in God's mercy.

On February 8, 2026, on the Sunday of the Prodigal Son, a solemn Episcopal Liturgy was celebrated in the Church of the Holy Trinity in Letnjikovac. The service was led by Bishop Jerotej of Šabac in concelebration with Bishop Nektarije of London and Great Britain-Ireland. The joint Eucharist was held as a sign of church unity and spiritual communion. This was reported by the Serbian Eparchy of Great Britain and Ireland on Instagram.

In his sermon, Bishop Jerotej addressed the Gospel of the Prodigal Son and emphasized its enduring relevance for the spiritual life of the faithful. He reminded that every person can find themselves in the figure of the prodigal son and that the approaching Lenten season should be a time of inner conversion, self-knowledge, and liberation from passions and bad habits.

The bishop emphasized that the path of repentance is not easy, but at the same time is sustained by hope in God's merciful reception. Like the father in the parable, God receives every person with open arms who returns to Him. The message of the Church therefore calls for taking the path of conversion and consciously renewing spiritual life.

Previously, UOJ reported that the Church in Serbia excluded critics from communion.
