Patriarch Porfirije preached in Belgrade about repentance and humility
On the Sunday of the Prodigal Son, the Serbian Patriarch celebrated the Liturgy in the Church of Saint Sava and subsequently blessed a blood donation drive.
On February 8, 2026, Porfirije celebrated the Divine Liturgy in the Church of Saint Sava on Vračar in Belgrade. In his sermon, the Patriarch spoke about the importance of humility, repentance, and inner conversion as the foundation of spiritual life. This was reported by Orthodox Times.
Drawing from the parable of the prodigal son (Luke 15:11–32), he emphasized that conversion opens the path to spiritual renewal and return to God. The Gospel shows two life attitudes that every person knows: faithfulness and obedience on one hand, and self-centeredness and distance from God on the other. The Patriarch called upon the faithful to fight against pride and arrogance and to lead a life of humility.
Following the service, the Church leader visited representatives of the Red Cross and a blood transfusion institute. In the parish rooms of the church, a voluntary blood donation campaign took place, whose participants the Patriarch blessed and thanked for their commitment to helping other people.
