Citizens' Initiative in the USA Against Abortion Ban Receives Support
After the required number of signatures is reached, voting on the legislative amendment should be possible in November.
In the US state of Idaho, a citizen initiative to loosen the strict abortion ban is close to reaching the required number of signatures. According to the organizers, nearly 100,000 supporter signatures have already been collected, which is expected to exceed the necessary threshold. This was reported by Idaho Capital Sun. The initiative aims to repeal the nearly complete abortion ban and introduce legal protections for reproductive rights. This could put the issue directly to a vote as part of the November 2026 elections. The prerequisite is that at least 70,725 valid signatures from various electoral districts must be confirmed.
The collection of signatures is being carried out by volunteer helpers, with some of the submitted support still being reviewed. The organizers are confident that the initiative will be approved and plan to subsequently launch a campaign to win a majority of voters for the project.
Previously, UOJ reported that the Greens in the Bundestag want to force hospitals to perform abortions.
