The fear of an exodus of Christians in Lebanon has increased
The relief organization appealed to the international community and demanded protection for civilians.
Following the recent clashes in southern Lebanon, the Catholic relief organization "Aid to the Church in Need" has warned of a further escalation of the situation. The attacks have not only claimed civilian casualties and damaged infrastructure, but have also driven many people to flee. This was reported by Tagespost on April 11, 2026.
According to the organization, Christian communities are particularly affected, as they are often located in small border villages. Many of these families have few opportunities to reach safety and are directly exposed to violence. The situation on the ground is described as characterized by constant insecurity and precarious living conditions.
"Aid to the Church in Need" calls for greater international commitment to defuse the conflicts. The protection of the civilian population must be the top priority in order to prevent further destabilization of the country. A prolonged conflict could endanger the social balance in Lebanon in the long term.
At the same time, there are warnings of a possible "exodus of Christians." If the security situation continues to deteriorate, many people from this religious minority could be forced to leave the country. This would not only have humanitarian consequences, but would also profoundly change the cultural and religious diversity of Lebanon.
