Pope Leo XIV calls for peace and reconciliation in Cameroon
Interreligious Meeting in Bamenda in the Sign of Dialogue and Unity.
During his visit to Cameroon, Pope Leo XIV called on Christians and Muslims for reconciliation at an interfaith peace meeting in St. Joseph Cathedral in Bamenda. At the beginning of his stay, he prayed together with the Archbishop of Bamenda, Andrew Nkea Fuanya, and then participated in a meeting with representatives of various religious communities. This was reported by EWTN NEWS. In his address, the Pope emphasized the need to heal the wounds of past conflicts and walk the path of peace together. He acknowledged the commitment of local Christians and Muslims who continue to advocate for understanding and solidarity despite difficult circumstances. At the same time, he warned against misusing religion for political or military purposes.
Pope Leo XIV called for a fundamental conversion toward greater humanity and brotherhood. Peace must not be reinvented, but lived through mutual acceptance. At the conclusion of the meeting, he released white doves as a symbol of peace together with representatives of the local community.
