Good Friday chant recalls the suffering of Christ
Liturgical hymn places passion and redemption at the center.
The Serbian Orthodox Church in Frankfurt published a liturgical text together with images from the service on Holy Thursday. The chant belongs to the central hymns of these days and is traditionally performed in the services. The post was published on Instagram. The text begins with the words "Today hangs on the wood, He who founded the earth above the waters" and describes in dense language the suffering of Jesus Christ. The contrasts between divine glory and human suffering are emphasized: Christ, the Creator of the world, is mocked, beaten and nailed to the cross.
Finally, the hymn turns to Christ in prayer with the request not only to contemplate His suffering, but also to recognize His resurrection. Thus the Church connects the memory of the cross inseparably with the hope of the Easter feast.
