Great Oil Consecration celebrated in two parishes in Cologne

Believers gather in St. George and St. Dimitrios Cathedral.

In Cologne, the Great Oil Blessing was celebrated in two parishes of the Antiochian Orthodox Metropolis. In the evening, the faithful gathered both in St. George parish and in the cathedral and episcopal seat of St. Dimitrios to participate together in this special divine service. This was reported by The celebration began around 7:00 PM and lasted until about 9:00 PM. In a dignified and spiritually enriched atmosphere, prayers and readings were offered, while the faithful were anointed with the blessed oil during the course of the divine service. The Oil Blessing is among the significant sacraments of the Church and is closely connected with the petition for healing and strengthening of soul and body.

Many participants used the opportunity for inner reflection and prayer. The divine services in both parishes were perceived as communal and spiritually enriching and stood under the sign of comfort, hope, and the experience of ecclesiastical unity.
