Good Friday: ROJ Cologne published video on the suffering of Christ

The ROJ Cologne has published a video explaining the significance of Good Friday. The post draws on central liturgical texts and begins with the words: "Today hangs on the cross He who founded the earth above the waters." In the video, Good Friday is described as one of the most important days of Holy Week, when the Orthodox Church commemorates the suffering and death of Jesus Christ on the cross. The focus is on the events described in the Gospel – Christ's trial, His torments and humiliations, the crucifixion on Golgotha, His death and burial. The day is considered in Orthodox tradition to be the strictest and at the same time saddest of the year, pointing to the central importance of sacrifice and redemption. At the same time, the post highlights the contrast between Christ's triumphal entry into Jerusalem and His later condemnation. While He was initially greeted with "Hosanna," many shortly thereafter demanded His crucifixion, as they expected a political liberator. Christ Himself shows a different image on the cross: He endures suffering in humility, prays for His tormentors, and takes death upon Himself voluntarily.

In conclusion, the significance of the cross as a sign of hope is emphasized. Through Christ's sacrifice, according to Christian understanding, the path to reconciliation with God and to eternal life is opened. Good Friday reminds us that true strength lies not in power, but in love, forgiveness, and humility – "We bow before Your suffering, Christ, show us also Your glorious resurrection."

Previously, the UOJ reported that Good Friday chanting reminds of Christ's suffering.
