Brussels remembered victims of the 2016 attacks

In Brussels, on March 22, victims of the 2016 Islamist terrorist attacks were commemorated. The attacks killed 32 people and injured more than 300. The attacks occurred at Zaventem Airport and at the Maelbeek metro station in the European Quarter. This was reported by SRF. On the tenth anniversary, two central memorial events took place in the morning. At both attack sites, the names of the victims were read out and a minute of silence was observed. Among the participants were the Belgian royal couple as well as government representatives. Numerous relatives, survivors and citizens gathered to remember together.

The events of 2016 have had a lasting impact on the country. Even years later, heightened security measures remain in place, while programs for prevention and deradicalization have been expanded. The memory of the attacks remains an important part of public remembrance and serves as a reminder for vigilance and social cohesion.
