Believers protected churches during Women's Day demonstrations in Mexico

During demonstrations for International Women's Day on March 8, Catholic believers in several Mexican cities protected churches. In Guadalajara, Christians positioned themselves in front of a church building and formed a human chain to prevent possible damage during a feminist protest march. As the demonstration approached, security forces also erected an additional barrier to control the situation and protect the believers. This was reported by catholicarena.

The background of these measures are experiences from previous years. During earlier demonstrations on March 8, church buildings had repeatedly become targets of graffiti and property damage. To protect the facades of the houses of worship from spray paint and other damage, believers this time positioned themselves directly in front of the buildings and thus tried to prevent possible attacks.

Similar scenes occurred in other cities as well. In front of the Cathedral of Puebla, believers gathered before the main entrance of the historic house of worship. According to reports, paint was also thrown at people who positioned themselves in front of churches to protect them during the protests. The measures taken by the believers aimed to prevent damage to religious buildings during the demonstrations.
