Church Conference in Augsburg Discussed War and Peace

From February 6 to 7, delegates of the Working Group of Christian Churches in Bavaria gathered at the St. Ulrich conference center in Augsburg for their annual conference. Under the theme "War and Peace," the focus was on the churches' experiences in dealing with current conflicts as well as the responsibility of Christian communities in the tension between violence, security, and reconciliation. This was reported by ACK Bayern. Representatives of different denominations such as Orthodox churches, free churches, and other Christian communities shared their perspectives on war and its effects. The question of the role of Christians in the military was also addressed. Practical and academic insights showed ways to avoid conflicts and strategies for de-escalation. In workshops, participants dealt with topics including ecumenical exchange, peace ethics, the historical development of military service, and spiritual forms of understanding.

On the second day of the conference, the peace memorandum of the Evangelical Church in Germany was presented and discussed together. The conference ended with reports from member churches as well as an outlook on upcoming ecumenical projects and events. The next delegate assembly is to address the challenges of advancing secularization.
