Antifa Action at Church in Erlangen Triggered Fire Department Response

Activists have attached a large banner with an anti-AfD message to the evangelical Huguenot church in Erlangen. During the action, smoke bombs were also ignited, creating thick smoke. Passersby initially thought the situation might be a possible fire and alerted the fire department. This was reported by NN. After the incident became known, the church congregation clarified that it fundamentally does not permit the use of its church building for political actions. According to the congregation, the banner was attached without their consent. The use of smoke bombs had caused temporary confusion, as it was initially unclear where the smoke was coming from.

The background of the action is apparently that the AfD had previously used the church for election campaign activities, which triggered protests from activists. However, the church congregation explicitly distanced itself from the banner action and emphasized that the church should not be a place for party political statements. Official information about those responsible for the action is not yet available.

Previously, UOJ reported that a suspect with Hamas connections was arrested in Cyprus.
