Patriarch Theophilos commemorated the deceased on Soul Saturday
On February 14, 2026, the Patriarchate of Jerusalem solemnly observed Meatfare Saturday and the first Saturday of Souls. The liturgical celebrations began on the eve, February 13, with Vespers in the monastery and patriarchal church of Saints Constantine and Helena, presided over by Patriarch Theophilos III and concelebrated with the fathers of the Brotherhood of the Holy Sepulchre. This was reported by Orthodox Times. During the services, a memorial canon was chanted in honor of the deceased Patriarchs of Jerusalem as well as all members of the Brotherhood, including bishops, priests, monks, nuns, and deacons. Their names received special mention both in the Divine Liturgy in the morning and in the subsequent memorial service.
Additionally, a Divine Liturgy was celebrated in the cemetery chapel of Zion for the deceased members of the Brotherhood and the Greek Orthodox communities of Jerusalem. Metropolitan Hesychios of Kapitolias led the service, during which the names of the departed were read. Choirs sang in Greek and Arabic, while the faithful prayed in memory of their deceased.
