Procession for the Triumph of Orthodoxy took place in Palermo

In the first week of Great Lent, on the Feast of the Triumph of Orthodoxy, the parish of Saint Alexander of Komana in Palermo organized a solemn procession with holy icons. This liturgical tradition commemorates the restoration of icon veneration in 843 and continues to hold special significance in the Orthodox church year. The procession became a visible witness to faith, fidelity to church tradition, and the living spiritual culture of Orthodoxy. This was reported by the Moscow Patriarchate in Italy. The joint celebration was attended by believers of various origins who gathered in the church for prayer. Russians, Ukrainians, Belarusians, Italians, and Eritreans stood side by side, confessing the Orthodox faith together. The participation of people of different nationalities showed that the Church forms a spiritual community that transcends cultural and linguistic boundaries.

The procession with the holy icons not only commemorated a historical event in church history, but also the enduring significance of icons in the spiritual life of Orthodoxy. They are an expression of the Incarnation of Christ and visible signs of God's presence in the world.
