Sacrament of Holy Unction celebrated in Catania
On March 21, in the second week of Great Lent, the sacrament of holy unction was celebrated in the temple of the holy martyr Agatha in Catania after the Divine Liturgy. The celebration took place within the framework of the intensive liturgical time of fasting and brought together numerous faithful for common prayer and participation in church life. This was reported by the ROC on Telegram. According to church tradition, this sacrament is particularly administered in Orthodox communities during Great Lent. It has a distinctly penitential character and is closely connected with confession. Through the prayers of the Church, God's grace is invoked, which heals both spiritual and physical weaknesses while also granting forgiveness of even forgotten sins.
The sacrament was performed by Archpriest Sergij Litvinčik in concelebration with Deacon Adrian Frinchi. For the faithful, the celebration offered an opportunity for inner reflection, spiritual renewal, and conscious preparation for the approaching Easter feast.
Previously, UOJ reported that Brussels remembered victims of the 2016 attacks.
